Year of the Yang Wood Dragon Begins February 10th, 2024

2024 is a Yang Wood Dragon year. It begins with the solar new year on Feb 4, 2024 and ends just before the next lunar new year on January 28, 2025. The Dragon is the fifth animal in the Chinese zodiac, and it is compatible with the Monkey and the Rat. The Rooster is a friend as well. The Dog clashes with the Dragon, thus 2024 can be a challenging year for people born in Dragon and Dog years. People born in Rabbit and Ox years may experience more challenges this year as well.

Chinese Lunar New Year, otherwise known as the Spring Festival, is the second new moon after the winter solstice and the new moon that is closest to spring. The Lunar New Year is the most important celebration in China and usually goes on for about eight days, as families gather together to celebrate. February 4, the solar new year, is the day to make the annual updates in your home.

In traditional feng shui, we have two factors to take into consideration: the animal year and the annual Lo Shu number. The animal year refers to things that influence you on a personal level. The annual Lo Shu number refers to energetic influences located in specific areas (compass directions) of your home, office, and garden. Working from a position of strength, you can positively influence the type of year you have, by neutralizing negative energies and negative stars, while activating the positive stars. 2024 is a #3 year, thus Star #3 is on the center of every home throughout the year. For the next 20 years, enhance stars 1, 2, 6, 8, and 9. Take care to weaken the energy of stars 3, 4, 5 and 7.

The Chinese calendar runs in 60 year cycles. We last experienced similar energies 60 years rights ago, in 1964. Major events of 1964 include: the Beatles appeared on the Ed Sullivan Show, the Civil Rights Act of 1964 was passed, Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr, received the Nobel Peace Prize, the Warren Commission reported on JFK’s assassination, China exploded an atomic bomb, becoming the 5th nation to have a bomb. The Tonkin Gulf Resolution was passed by Congress, enabling President Johnson to take steps that led to deep involvement in Viet Nam, IBM introduced the IBM System 360, the Surgeon General reported on the dangers of smoking and the Verrazano Bridge, linking Brooklyn, NY to Staten Island was completed. It was the longest suspension bridge at the time. 1964 was a mix of social change, technological progress, and significant world events.

2024 is likely to be an unpredictable year with progress in many areas, and social change. If past yang wood years are any indication, expect to see multiple forms of expression, power struggles, growth, and forward movement. The last Wood years were 2014 (Yang Wood Horse) and 2015 (Yin Wood Sheep). The last Dragon year was 2012 (Yang Water Dragon). Dragon years are noted for support, stability, wealth, vitality, and enhanced creativity. Social responsibility and activities aligned with the greater good bode well this year.

Dragons are known for being steady, reliable, confident, charismatic, generous, and determined. They are natural leaders and love praise and recognition. Dragons take more risks and make things happen. Success is earned through genuine and focused actions. A downside is that they may have little will power, can give in easily, and don’t admit mistakes.

The Flying Stars influence the energy in your house and environment. When activating the Flying Stars, the year begins February 4, 2024 and ends February 3, 2025. A significant change this year is that we move into a new 20-year cycle.

The Annual Lo Shu number is the annual number that “flies in” every February. The number for 2024 is 3. Thus “3” is in the middle of the Lo Shu or Magic Square for the year. This number and positioning are used for both Flying Star systems as well as Nine Star Ki astrology. For the next 20 years, enhance stars 1, 2, 6, 8, and 9. Take care to weaken the energy of stars 3, 4, 5 and 7.

During 2024, pay extra attention to the Center, NE, East, and West sectors.

  1. The Annual 5 Star is in the West.
  2. The Grand Duke (Tai Su) is in the SE (Dragon) sector (112.5º - 127.5º).
  3. The Three Killings (142.5-217.5) primarily in the South, overlaps both the SE and SW.
  4. Sui Po (Year Breaker; 292.5º - 307.5º) is in the NW (Dog) opposite the Dragon.

Cleanse Last Year’s Cures

    • You can cleanse the cures currently in place under the next full moon or in four hours of direct sunlight. Sprinkle with salt and let them soak up the moonshine or sunshine.  Then rinse under water and place in the appropriate areas.
    • Toss all old Salt-Water cures; replace in the #5 sector (West).
    • Toss out last year’s Bagua Mirrors used as an annual cure.

If you’d like to know more about this system, or if you would like a customized update for your floorplan, contact Peg. Your first Flying Star overlay for your floorplan is $180.00. Annual updates after that are $108.00.

Overall, take time this month to get on track for the new year. Set your intentions and refresh your home. Also put some beneficial and healthy routines in place for yourself. Soon you’ll be experiencing a shift toward spring and wonderful new beginnings. Embrace them and move forward with enthusiasm and joy.
