The Joy of Synchronicity

I love synchronicity! I experience it regularly and it brings me joy. When I notice the connections from a series of what might otherwise seem like unconnected events, I’m always amazed and delighted at the ways it shows up in my life. I stop and acknowledge it gratefully. I give thanks and say a prayer. Then more comes. It feels magical.

This past week time and space opened up for me by sending a snowy day just when I needed it! A big snowstorm meant I would need to stay home … no walk, no errands, no driving. I could use the extra time to work on an important project. Earlier in the week I was wondering how I was going to accomplish everything that I planned. Then, like magic, the weather changed, and I had an open day. I love it!

Was it a coincidence that we had a snowstorm just when I needed more open time in my schedule or was it synchronous event? Does it even matter? Synchronicity is defined as the simultaneous occurrence of events which appear related but have no discernable causal connection. Coincidences, on the other hand, are random events attributed to chance or luck. Can you attract more synchronicity to yourself? Perhaps!

I came across a theory that synchronicity exists in an underlying field. To me, this would be the quantum field, the field from which all matter rises. Quantum energy is a single packet of energy or matter. It’s the minimum amount of energy required for a shift or a change. It’s very small. Contrary to popular belief, a quantum leap is actually a very small leap … rather than a huge leap.

Carl Jung (1875 – 1961) wrote about a unified world where everything is connected. Maybe this is the quantum field? He taught us that you engage with the world through your psyche, energy, emotions, actions, and experiences. In other words, what you think, say, feel and do. It’s all connected. Thus, life is an interactive experience. It’s the unified cocreation of you with the Universe and the Universe with you. Life is always reflecting back your connection with the energy you’re putting out. Some say it’s what you need to know at any given moment.

Feng shui patterns are a subset of quantum energy.  Everything is alive, connected, and always changing. You’re connected to your space and your space to you. I think of it as a dance of energy, back and forth. Although feng shui patterns have been observed for thousands of year, I’ve been studying them for about 25 years. I continue to be amazed at the connections. When you change the energy in your environment, you also change. It’s fun when you tap in and track the changes.

I began keeping a synchronicity journal on February 4, 2011. It was Chinese solar new year, the day to make annual feng shui adjustments. I started my journal that day because a synchronous event stopped me in my tracks. I had been thinking about situation and the next thing I knew my husband received a phone call about the same topic and it completed the cycle. I tracked synchronous events for several years and then stopped writing about them. They continue to occur frequently and I’m going to start tracking them again. I’m interested to see how they might have changed over the past 11 years. We are now at a higher level of consciousness and the synchronous events in my life might reflect this.

Here are some random synchronous events from my journal:

  • I was wondering where the deer were and then they showed up in my backyard that afternoon.

  • I agreed to do a speaking event before I realized that it would be during a “timeout” period. The event was cancelled the following day. (This was great because I didn’t want to speak during a timeout.)
  • I reflected about teaching a workshop and shortly thereafter a call came in with a workshop request.

  • I have multiple journal entries about looking up and seeing 11:11 on the clock. I typically stop what I’m doing and reflect on what’s happening.

  • One day I had a long ride to an appointment. On my return trip I decided to skip errands and go directly home. As soon as I walked in the door, I answered an emergency call on my land line. It was a hospital. One of my sisters had a terrible accident and I needed to come … a three-hour ride.

  • One evening my husband and I were dinner guests at a home that I had feng-shuied for a previous owner about ten years before. (I kept quiet!)

  • I have many journal entries about various ways of financial abundance showing up … unexpected checks or money, discounts, gifts, coupons, large projects, etc.

  • During one consultation my client and I both wore the same sweater … it was from a unique business, not a department store or catalog. We felt the synchronicity was a favorable sign.

  • I have multiple journal entries about thinking of someone and shortly after they contact me.

How does synchronicity show up in your life? Do you tune in and acknowledge it? I think that synchronicity is in everyone’s life, but many people may not notice it. If you’d like more of it, pay attention. Notice the seemingly random events. When you notice something synchronous, jot it down. If you do this for at least 21 days, it will soon become a habit. The patterns will build on each other and before long, you’ll experience a string of synchronous events too.

If you’d like your synchronous events to be joyful ones, put out happy thoughts and a positive vibe. You can do this, even when it seems that the world is falling apart elsewhere. Send prayers and peaceful thoughts to the troubled areas of the world. Pull back from the chaos and from getting emotionally entangled with the news. You can be aware of what’s going on without being consumed by it. Focusing on joy and synchronicity might be a good way to begin to shift. Give it a try. Take a quantum leap into synchronicity. Notice what shows up for you. Send along some comments to me at peg@fengshuiconnections.com. I’d love to hear from you.
