Take a deep breath in, fill your lungs with the fresh energy of a brand spanking New Year! New hopes, new dreams, new adventures and everything else that comes along with a new year. Twelve new months stretched out before you, beckoning you to choose your path.
You probably know some of the things you want to accomplish, goals you want to meet, places you want to go, activities you want to do, skills to learn. Remember, the Universe has a plan too!
If you align your energy with the energy of the Universe, you will be “zigging when you should be zigging and zagging when you should be zagging”...
As we begin 2025, the Capricorn energy provides a nice foundation for creating whatever you wish for the new year. It also gives us a dose of discipline and practicality. You might even be feeling a little too serious and responsible, focusing on the important things and ignoring distractions.
As January begins, Mars is still retrograde, things may feel heavy, hard or stalled. It backs up into Cancer (January 6), giving you permission to slow down and enjoy some self-care (a day of pampering at the spa?) The retrograde continues through the whole month and most of February. We still carry on, face the challenges, climb over the hurdles and get where we need to go. Obstacles are in the way to teach us to be resilient!
On January 2, Venus (the planet of love, money, beauty, pleasure and things you value) enters Pisces for about 3 weeks. Venus is exalted in Pisces, she loves being here and it is a really sweet transit. Venus is full-on when in Pisces! This is positive energy for love and relationships, financial matters and creative projects.
Mercury (the planet of communication) enters Capricorn on January 8, so communications will take on a more practical, focused and serious tone for about 2 1⁄2 weeks.
The Full Moon in Cancer occurs on January 13. This may bring some big emotions to the surface. It’s also a good time to check your intentions/goals list- maybe there are some items on there that you have changed your mind about, maybe there are too many items on the list. Adjust it any way necessary. If you need to take things off, go right ahead and do it. You are not obligated to pursue every goal you have ever thought about.
That is the beauty of having a new moon and a full moon every month, we can dream big and then dump what we don’t want!
On January 19, the energy shifts again as we enter Aquarius season! Aquarius is an air sign, ruled by Uranus (the planet of innovation, unpredictability, eccentricity and rebellion). It’s a good time to brainstorm, think outside the box and come up with some visionary ideas. This is the season where you have full permission to let your quirky side show!
The month wraps up with the New Moon in Aquarius on January 29, coinciding with the Chinese New Year (the year of the Wood Snake) and then Uranus (the ruler of Aquarius) turns direct on January 30. The New Moon in Aquarius calls for us to examine if we want more friends or more freedom? That’s the Aquarius paradox-so contrary! Aquarians enjoy being with friends and thrive in solitude, they love to travel and adore being home lounging on the couch!
As you embrace the energy of this new year, I encourage you to also embrace the wisdom, guidance and practical application of astrology in your everyday life.
