Early April: Revitalize Your Career Gua and Life Purpose
April is a transition month as we emerge from the slower winter energies and spring forth! The new moon in Aries on April 1st prods us to begin something new, make a shift, innovate, lead, or do some physical activity. In your home, the area of focus is your Career gua. This is the center-front of your home, every room in your home, your workspace and your yard or land. The quality of energy in this area influences your life purpose, life path, profession, career, and work or occupation. It also influences the things about which you are most passionate. What drives your life and gives it meaning and purpose? What do you yearn to do?

This is a time to pay attention to your dreams (they may be quite active), freshen up your home and revitalize your mind, body, and spirit. Aries is a fire sign and the first sign of the zodiac. Thus, we begin a new year. It is ruled by Mars and symbolized by a ram. Traits include being action-oriented, courageous, spontaneous, passionate, honest, determined, enthusiastic, and optimistic. On the downside, Aries energy can trigger impatience, mood swings, a short temper, and impulsive behavior.

New moons are about new beginnings. April is a month to fully embrace spring. Each day the buds on the trees in northern New England are more noticeable and we’re seeing our early spring plants emerge from warming soil. If we’re fortunate, they’ll be in bloom mid-month as Passover, Easter, and other rites of spring are celebrated.

Are you anxious to do something new? In my house we’ll soon be replacing heaters and adding a new one. This requires some rearranging. Thus, we’ve been shaking things up and moving things around. It’s amazing how one small change is the catalyst for many more. Part of the shift involved moving a bookcase. In the process I became reacquainted with several books that I’d love to read. I’m eager to set time aside and begin the process.

The Career Gua and your Life Purpose

There are various approaches to take with your Career gua, depending on where you are in your life. Your focus might be on a new interest for yourself, career development and growth, changing your role, getting a job or a new job, starting or growing a business, or you might be looking to go to school or obtain training, retire, or post-retirement activities. Regardless of where you are in your life cycle, assessing and refreshing your Career gua can assist your efforts and initiatives. It can facilitate how you attract or strengthen opportunities and help you to feel better about your choices and efforts.

Water and the Philosopher

The Career area is associated with the Water element. The archetype for Water is the Philosopher. The Philosopher explores deep mysteries, searching for the truth. In the process, ignorance takes a back seat as new knowledge is uncovered. What role does “the Philosopher” play in your life? Is there something you’d love to learn or discover either about yourself, your work, or your life? In what areas do you embrace mystery or delve deeper into a topic? Where do you yearn to spend more time, scrutinize the meaning of the topic, or gain insight?

Career Gua and your Health

From a health perspective, the organs associated with the Career gua, and the Water element are the kidney and bladder. The body part is the ear. Coincidentally, the ear and kidney meridians are connected. Over the years, I’ve had clients who were unhappy in their Careers and also had ear and/or hearing problems. When they removed blockages in their Career guas, their hearing improved. Your kidneys are also associated with fear. If you’re feeling fearful about anything, adjusting the Career gua of your house and every room in your house can help get things moving forward for you.

In balance, Water flows easily, without interruption. Water energy is curious, clever, candid, insightful, spiritual, and thinks things through. When Water energy is deficient, you might feel irritable, stingy, critical, fearful, superficial, or dry. Excess Water energy expresses itself as a lack of enthusiasm, depression, self-pity, stagnation, and being too blunt, detached, insensitive or lonely.

The front center of your Home relates to your life path and overall opportunities.

Take a walk through this area and notice what captures your attention. You might also take a few photos and study them. How do you feel? What are you noticing?

Meditation rooms, bedroom, bathrooms, and solo areas are Water-type rooms.

Nine Tips to Revitalize Your Career Gua:

  • Hang a beautiful mirror in the center-front are of your home or any room in your home… make sure you can see your full head in it.
  • Add a symbol that reflects your passion … your work or calling, something you enjoy doing, perhaps a service you provide, or a hobby. (I have a picture of the kanji symbols for the Five Elements over the door to my office, which is in the Career gua of my office.)
  • If you want a new job, place a reminder that reflects what you’d love to do and/or for whom.
  • Make a Vision Board and place it in a Career gua in your house or your office.
  • Add a water feature. Keep it clean and keep the water flowing.
  • Hang a windchime to activate energy.
  • Hang a crystal. Crystals regulate and also activate chi.
  • Light a lamp regularly, with intention.
  • Add a black or dark colored floormat for center-front entrances.

Water and The Five Elements

In the Five element system, each of the five elements have symbiotic relationships with each other. There’s a push and pull, of sorts. One element always strengthens another, while the remaining elements wear it down or deplete its energy to one degree or another. Water energy is supported and strengthened by Metal. Simultaneously, Water corrodes Metal or wears it down. In other words, it consumes it. In turn, Water feeds the plants and trees. In excess, floods and runoff occur. Water also extinguishes Fire and washes away Earth. Thus, Water is strengthened by Metal and depleted, consumed, or used up by Wood, Fire, and Earth.

Emphasize Metal and Water energy to create more flow.

If your Career or Life Path could benefit from more insight or use a boost, or you’d like to create more flow in your space, balance the area using décor that emphasizes Metal and Water elements. This can help provide a breakthrough and gets things moving in a new direction. Metal strengthens clarity and Water brings flow. If you feel anxious, overwhelmed, or in fear about things, you may have too much Water energy. In that case, tone it down by removing Water or Metal or adding Wood, Fire or Earth energies.

Harmonize your space by playing with the Five Elements. Here are some ideas for balancing the Five Elements in your Career Gua:

Water energy enhances flow and reflective, philosophical qualities. It is represented by:

  • Water features and water itself
  • Mirrors, windows, glass, reflective and shiny surfaces
  • Black and very dark colors
  • Free form, wavy and symmetrical shapes
  • Pictures of lakes, rivers, harbors, ocean views

Metal energy helps bring clarity to a space. Metal items include:

  • Physical metal: gold, silver, brass, aluminum, etc.  (pots & pans, lamps, picture frames, art and sculptures)
  • Marble, granite, flagstone
  • Natural crystals, gems and rocks dug from deep within the earth
  • Circles, oval and arch shapes
  • White, gray, and pastel shades.

Wood energy is about vibrancy, growth and expansion. Wood is represented by:

  • Fresh flowers, plants, and trees
  • Floral fabrics and patterns
  • Vertical stripes and tall columns
  • Green and blue

Fire brings dazzling, sparkling energy to a space. It is represented by:

  • Fire, flames, lights, sunlight, candles
  • Triangles, pyramids, diamond, and cone shapes
  • People and animals, as well as pictures and sculptures of people and animals
  • Electronics and electrical items
  • Red, burgundy and the red palette

Earth energy grounds and anchors your space. Earth items include:

  • Wooden furniture (because it’s harvested wood)
  • Pottery, earthenware, bricks, and clay
  • Seashells and natural items
  • Square shapes
  • Oversized or heavy furniture that hugs the floor
  • Yellow, gold, brown and autumn/earth tones.

Set an Intention and Reflect on April 1st

Since we’re beginning the month with a new moon, set intentions related to your job, career, or whatever you’re most passionate about on April 1. Are you currently living a purpose-driven life? If so, what keeps it going and motivates you daily? Do you yearn for something different? Perhaps you want a change, but you’d like more inspiration to guide you as you recharge or redirect your energy. Is there anything that you’d love to Do, Be, or Have that you’re not seeing on your horizon?

Wherever you are in life, pause on April 1st and reflect. If you’re satisfied with where you are, express gratitude. If you’d like some shifts, set an intention for a specific change or breakthrough. If you’d like direction, ask for that. Embrace the new moon energy welcome it into your life. Visualize the end result of your intention gently unfolding for you to walk the path. Skip over how things might happen. Just focus on the end result. Nothing is out of the question. Everything is possible. What’s most important is that the end result brings you joy. Will the result of your intention bring you joy? If not, what will?

Then, over the next two weeks, wake up the energy in the center-front of your house, every room in our house, your workspace, your yard, and gardens. Do some spring clearing in these areas of your home. Remove accumulated winter dust, vacuum deep into the corners (high and low), wash your windows and curtains or drapes, clean your mirrors and the glass in picture frames. Put away items that may be sitting out of place. Remove clutter. Dislodge paper piles. Clear tabletops and counters. Return misplaced items to their proper home or location. Toss out trash, recycle, give away or donate what you want. If you have more time, adjust additional areas, as well as the front center of the outside of your house and your yard.

April 16th Full Moon … Notice what’s happening

The April 16th full moon will be a time to reflect on what’s emerging for you after setting your intentions on April 1st. Look for small signs that indicate something is changing or has changed. If could be a new passion or endeavor, a different role or job, a new resource, or a new hobby. It also might be something totally unexpected. Perhaps a door opened for you that you hadn’t anticipated? Be on the lookout! The more you notice, the more that will capture your attention. It’s a delightful and fun process.

April 30th: New Moon and Solar Eclipse in Taurus

On April 30th we have a new moon and partial solar eclipse in Taurus. This new moon correlates with your Wealth gua. If you’d like to get a head start, spring clean the back-left corners of your house, every room in your house, and the corresponding area of your workspace and yard, prior to April 30th. Then set an intention on April 30th related to wealth and prosperity. Do a mediation and visualize your intention unfolding easily for you. See yourself enjoying the fruits of your labor.

The eclipse occurs at 10 degrees Taurus 28 minutes. It will be visible from parts of South America and Antarctica. If you have important planets within 3 degrees of the eclipse, you could be energetically impacted by the eclipse. It’s about taking responsibility for something in your life and also about taking care of yourself, of nurturing yourself. For some people, these may be the same issue … the need to accept personal responsibility for self-care and self nurture.
